Christina Williams
Christina Williams is a Fellow with NC State University’s Leadership Academy and is an administrative intern at Central Elementary in Northampton County. I obtained my Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Elizabeth City State University in May 2001. Within a month of graduating I knew that Criminal Justice was not my passion. In June 2001, I accepted a position at Saint Paul College in Lawrenceville, Va. working with the Upward Bound program as a tutor counselor. After working only one week in this position I realized that my true passion was education. I decided to follow my passion with a career in education so that I could inspire children to learn, just as my teachers fostered my love of knowledge. In August 2001, I returned to Halifax County where I received my education and begin my career as an educator working with fourth graders at Bakers Elementary School. I served in that capacity for seven years. Within those seven years I was chosen Teacher of the Year for Bakers Elementary School twice. Receiving this award twice as a young teacher was very rewarding. I am proudest of this award because my colleagues bestowed it upon me. It increased my motivation to continue in the field of education. I accepted a position as AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) Elective Teacher and Site Coordinator for the middle schools also in Halifax County, serving three years.
I take everyday as a new challenge, and I look forward to learning as I teach and lead others. My greatest reward is the fulfillment that comes in knowing that in some small way I have helped to shape the future of this country by educating children.
